Orkut New

Its very unusual that I visited Orkut on a Sunday eve. Orkut gave me the option try out the new build. I clicked on the the big 'O' with my fingers crossed to see the surprise from google. But I was a bit shocked after seeing the first look which is not at all impressive from gooogle. The UI is not at all impressive saying that I'm not so sure that whether its an issue with my Opera (Non supported by google wave) browser. But this time google did not warned me even that I'm using an untested browser. The UI I feel like below standards. Lot of issues with css rendering, and the font also not looks so great.

Here is a ksnaphot and gimpify of my orkut homepage

Google has to definitely revisit this design. From an Orkut user perspective there should be lot of improvements needed in this page.

Websphere JSP Engine configuration parameters

Today I came across a very basic issue while doing a module in a webapp deployed in Websphere 6.1, Basically there was an error coming from the compiled JSP and I was unable to find out why the issue is happening due to the unavailability of compiled java class. After some googling around I figured out how we can keep generated java source of compiled JSP's by setting jsp engine configuration parameter in the file ibm-web-ext.xmi. Parameter to set is 'keepgenerated' - true

<jspAttributes xmi:id="JSPAttribute_1234" name="keepgenerated"  value="true"/>

This will keep the generated java source under profiles/temp.

A detailed list of the configuration parameters can be found here - JSP engine configuration parameters

Google wave

Google did it again with the new innovation named Google wave. I came to know about this today from Toolz tweet. Watch this short youtube video to get more idea on what is wave. Currently only limited preview is available. So don't wait go ahead and register. I'm eagerly waiting to see how it works. Clearly this is going to be the next generation collaboration tool.

Back after vacation

Back to Bangalore after a week and a half long vacation. This time also I felt not to come back to this techie world. Don't know what is forcing me to think like that. This vacation is a tight schedule with my friends marriages - Jith, Shylesh, Soman's Drive a lot this time. Went for a long trip to Ernakulam from Kollam in my WagonR to attend Shylesh's marriage and a few trips to Adoor for Jith's marriage, in that aspect I enjoyed my trip this time. Unni is also getting married next month so an other trip, I hate this journey but no other go :( This time I travel back to Bangalore in KPN travels multi axled volvo. I think this lengthy bus has got 50-60 seats i think and in that journey there were only 6 peoples inside the bus due to off season or off day (Wednesday) as per the driver. I came to know a surprising fact from the driver in that journey that this bus mileage is only 2k.m per litre of Diesel. I was shocked after hearing that. What worries me is about the fuel usage in future, how will the next gen survive? Its time to change and think of alternative and preserve these fuels for more efficient purposes. Why can't we generate more energy from these fuels? In that night sleep, I dreamt of running a bus with 100K.m/litre. My office welcomed me with surprises (as usual), this time the change in ways to cafeteria as the fourth floor of my company is getting sold or rented to a different company (after effect of the financial turmoil) Projects got screwed up a bit, I got the taunting job of brining back a project back to track from worse. I don't have a plan till now, one thing I know is of the sleepless nights ahead. I hate this :( When will I be free? When will all the liabilities leave me? Another night about to call me (that remember me of a famous liquor caption 'Life is calling WHERE ARE U)

My enlightenment desktop

A blog post after a long period. But this time I have some nice thing to share about my Linux desktop. This is about new window manager Enlightenment another astonishing window manager. My hats off to the opensource development community behind this. After some sought of initial hickups in getting this wm working, i had some glassy cool wm working right. I used pbone yum repository to get it installed. My attempt of compiling the package failed due to various dependencies. Very graphical classy desktop with with less memory consumption, that impressed me a lot. A top show this wm is using only 3% of my system memory and a watch on cpu cycles also reveals the fact that this wm is awesome. Good collections of themes, animated desktop wallpapers, easy interaction with online updation. Out of the themes i like a theme named as Grunge Good collection of desktop gadgets, including cpumeter, clock, temprature, weather forecast etc. Here are 2 screenshots i would like to share across. The 'e' in the middle is animated which is a rotating one.

Haridwaril manikal muzhangumbol - A malayalam story

Just completed reading one of the good story i ever read. Somehow the story touched me a lot. Story is all about the feelings and nature of one person named Rameshan. Somehow i was seeing a pinch of me in this character, lot of similarities. Story has a very tragic ending. Worth reading this novel, I recommend.

Dream come true

A dream I was carrying for a long time finally came true when the American Airline carrying me landed in Boston Logan airport yesterday 10.30 PM EST. Yes i'm writing this post from Boston. I was over joyed when the first snow fall on my head, its the first time in my life i'm seeing snowing, great experience, though its cold -5C, i dont feel the coldness may be because i'm over joyed. After customs and emigration clearance I came out of the airport EXIT around 11 pm and a somalian cabbie gave me the first shot of 'Hello, how are you doing - welcome to Boston', I remeber of the malayalam actor Jagathy that time - One of his movie in which he acted as a photographer in Ooti used to say to vistors 'welcome to Ooty, nice to meet you' and infact that is the only english he knows. But my cab driver knows english and had a very nice ride in the late night. Thanks to my cabbie again that he doesn't know the place where i want to go. I enjoyed the entire ride around 30-35 minutes - amazed seeing the skyscrapers and the snowing city. Such a nice experience.

Okay the first day in Boston is about to end with the beautiful flavoured Bacardi and me :). I feel like finishing the entire 2L today itself :)
